Dental implants

Dr. Kogan & Colleagues
A dental implant is an alloplastic assembly part, which is placed directly into the jaw bone. It gets anchored to the jaw bone (toothless parts of the jaw) and acts as an artificial dental root. It takes approx. 3 to 6 months, after the insertion, until the implant is grown together with the surrounding bone and becomes a stress-resistant support unit.
Usually, a dental implant consists of three different components: the implant-body, which is anchored to the bone, the “neck portion” and the crown, which is placed on top of it. The used material needs to be “biocompatible”, in order for it to be accepted by the living tissue (the jaw bone) and to grow together into a strong unit. If this is not the case, it can cause a defense reaction against the artificial dental root.
